GoalThe goal of this project is to support the completion of the church that is a worship center and provides outreach to a population of Haitians, Dominicans, and Dominico-Haitians.
SummaryThis project seeks to raise $50,000 annually to expand the church construction, and reopen community services such as medical clinics and afterschool programs.
DescriptionLocated in the community of Bienvenido outside of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Iglesia Bautista Misionera Haitiana has been “a friend to the community,” faithfully serving since 1987. In October 2021, the church suffered a devastating loss of their building due to a fire from a major electrical power surge. Finding no other place to gather, the congregation met under a tarp in a member’s yard. By May 2022, through a small gift and local fundraising efforts, they were able to clear the wreckage and construct a simple framework of the first floor which they began to meet under.
Although the building remains unfinished, the church has continued vital ministry services to a rapidly growing population of Haitians, Dominicans, and Dominico-Haitians. The space limitations reduce the number of community members they can serve. The church provides access to medical clinics, afterschool tutoring & counseling, a meeting space, classrooms for Bible teaching & poverty prevention, and worship.
A finished church building will offer them the ability to welcome more than 400 additional congregants for worship. In addition, they hope to provide greater afterschool services as well as programs to address the community needs of teen pregnancy, HIV, and immigration changes.
The project total cost is $100,000 over 2 years, or $50,000 per year.
