The Mission Stewardship Manager represents the Ministry of International Ministries by building long-term partnerships with current and prospective major donors, raising financial support for the general fund, Global Servants, Mission projects, and ministry priorities in support of International Ministries’ global mission. As part of the Advancement team, this individual actively grows their donor portfolio and contributes to the team’s broader efforts to increase the organization’s general operating budget through strategic engagement, cultivation, and stewardship. They should be able to speak passionately about IM’s Mission, whether addressing large congregations, small groups, or individuals—and communicate with authenticity across a range of audiences. The Mission Stewardship Manager manages relationships with individuals, congregations, church-related groups, foundations, and businesses. The Mission Stewardship Manager must demonstrate a Christian testimony and cross-cultural sensitivity to the diversity of IM’s donor base. They are accountable for securing gifts and applying principles of stewardship that result in greater donor engagement with IM and growing financial support. This individual must demonstrate the ability to succeed in a faith-based environment, a passion for IM, and the capacity to translate that passion into deliverables aligned with IM’s fundraising goals, all with a high degree of integrity.
Responsibilities
- Represent International Ministries – personally represents the ministry of International Ministries to current and prospective donors, including individuals, churches, and businesses. They must effectively communicate the mission, scope, and program strategies of International Ministries, as well as the global impact of its work. In all interactions, promotes what is being accomplished as a testimony to God’s provision and invites others into the mission through clear, compelling, and faith-rooted communication.
- Build Relationships While Serving and Caring for Donors– seeks out and connects with individuals whose values align with IM’s mission, taking time to understand who they are and what they care about. They cultivate trusting relationships and provide meaningful engagement that helps donors feel informed, connected, and appreciated as true ministry partners. Through regular communication, personal presence, and authentic care, raises donor awareness of IM’s work and invites ongoing partnership in building God’s Kingdom locally and globally.
- Stewardship of Assigned Donors and Churches– is responsible for the care and development of an assigned portfolio of donors and churches. In coordination with their supervisor, they will create and implement individualized cultivation and solicitation plans for each donor and prospect. This includes managing donor touchpoints, maintaining accurate records, and executing stewardship strategies that deepen relationships and increase financial support in alignment with IM’s fundraising goals.
- Portfolio Management and Donor Engagement Strategy – The Mission Stewardship Manager builds and manages a portfolio of up to 150 priority relationships, primarily individuals and businesses, and conducts a minimum of 4 face-to-face visits per month. They develop and execute an annual plan that includes individualized engagement strategies and personally connect with donors through visits, events, correspondence, and calls—maintaining a minimum of 100 meaningful contacts and at least 8 scheduled visits per month for full-time staff. They are also responsible for discovering and qualifying new prospects through intentional networking and research, contributing to overall donor base growth.
- Collaboration, Support, and Event Engagement – The Mission Stewardship Manager works closely with the Mission Advancement team to support the planned giving and endowment programs and to achieve legacy giving goals. They support the Chief Advancement Officer, Donor Partnership Director, and CEO as needed in preparing for donor meetings, including drafting briefing materials. They also assist in planning and executing cultivation and stewardship events, Society gatherings, and other donor engagement opportunities—ensuring consistent follow-up and timely gift closure.
- Data Tracking, Reporting, and Communication– Using Salesforce and the CRM system, the Mission Stewardship Manager tracks all donor activity, moves management steps, and engagement outcomes in a timely and accurate manner. They generate reports to monitor donor performance, track portfolio progress, and measure delivery of gift income against budgeted goals. They remain informed on IM’s global work by staying current with IM communications, Global Servant updates, and relevant news, enabling them to answer donor questions and provide informed updates.
Team Participation and Spiritual Life– The Mission Stewardship Manager participates fully in the life of the IM and Mission Advancement team, including monthly Advancement meetings, weekly video calls and ongoing training. They engage with colleagues in a spirit of mutual encouragement and prayer, contributing to the spiritual life of the team. They are expected to embody and promote IM’s values, strategic priorities, and passion for global Mission, encouraging generous support for Global Servants and IM’s broader ministry.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education, License, Certification
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in related field and will consider equivalent to work experience.
- CFRE or equivalent certification is a plus.
Experience (job-related)
Fundraising Knowledge and Gift Facilitation
- Advanced knowledge of fundraising principles
- Working knowledge of ways to facilitate a major gift: stock transfers, IRA rollovers, legacy gifts, etc.
- Ability to probe and collect donor profile information and assess capacity
- Skillful in obtaining referrals and growing a donor portfolio
- Ability for soliciting, closing, and stewarding gifts resulting in six-figure-plus annual delivery in unrestricted gift income
- Self-motivated to satisfy gift stewardship needs with timely and personalized thank-you communications and follow-up
- Commitment to personal and professional growth in the field of development
Presentation, Communication, and Public Engagement
- Exceptional written, oral, and relationship-building interpersonal and presentation skills to simplify complex ministry priorities and projects into a short, compelling presentation or proposal
- The ability to make quick and effective connections on the phone and in person with donors, volunteers, staff, and the public
- Ability to work with volunteers, congregations, and church groups
- Strong people skills; effective interpersonal and communication abilities

- Other Experience and Background
- Familiarity with the history, structure, and culture of American Baptist Churches (ABCUSA) and its congregations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
- 5+ years of experience in development, fundraising, or related roles; may include pastoral leadership involving major gift solicitation, capital campaigns, or church fundraising
- Prior planned giving experience or equivalent training in legacy giving instruments.
- Technology competency in SalesForce, or other CRM systems, to run reports, track portfolio performance in a virtual digital environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office technology and information systems (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and donor databases.
- Strong public speaking and verbal communication skills
