You often don’t realize what luxuries you have until you lose them.
Having a home heated to 68, 70 or higher is an American luxury. Our room stays about 60-62 degrees here.
Having a car at your beck and call with 2.50/gallon gasoline is a luxury (and we were complaining about that “high” price). We are without one now, and 2 miles from town, but if we had a car it would cost about 1.90 to 2.00 per litre for gasoline (“petrol”).
Having brewed coffee. It is mostly tea and instant coffee here.
Having one’s own bathroom, shower, tub and toilet. Here we share a bathroom with an entire floor and showers with at least two floors.
Having storage and personal space. Here we live in a room about 6.5% the size of our home in Arkansas. You read that number correctly. Our living area is only 6.5% the size of our home.
Having access to an oven and stove. Isn’t it lovely to be able to bake homemade cookies? To smell those chocolate chips mixing in with brown sugar and butter? Yummmmm. Or to watch a pancake rise after you’ve flipped it?
We are so grateful for what we do have. We have Jesus and intimacy with our Father through Jesus. We have our family. We have warm covers on our beds. We have a roof over our heads. We have food. We have running water. We have health and energy. We have capability to move and run and laugh and sing. We can praise the Lord together. We have hearts changed by the Risen Savior. God is so good.
What do you have now, that truly is luxury, that you would find difficult to give up?
