From the very beginning God established something amazing. God, a dynamic and powerful relationship of Three, was a complete relationship. Additionally, He had an amazing array of angels who ministered to and worshipped Him. In spite of that, He created humanity, and He desired a relationship with His creation, breathing into them His very breath of life and creating them in His very image. And He walked with us and He talked with us, loving us as a mom and dad love their children, but perfectly so. Can’t you picture Dad, smiling as Adam names his first animal, amazed at His son, just as you might look over your child’s shoulder as they see a live monkey for the first time and laugh in glee.
He so loved us that He doesn’t force us to love Him, and, unfortunately, with that choice, we chose to reject Him. At that point, beyond all belief, He still didn’t quit loving us. Instead He showed perfect love, coming to earth, living and dying for us, even while we were all still sinners. The righteous became unrighteous and even tore apart His relationship of Three to make a way for us to be reconciled to Him. Jesus cried out, separated from God for the first and only time in all eternity, “Why have you forsaken me?!” What a tragedy, and a tragedy that was written for one reason: unconditional love for you and for me.
God clearly is a God of relationship, with all of history being about His relationship with us and His power to restore the broken relationship through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Now, it is our job to continue that ministry, the ministry of reconciliation, everywhere we go by sharing about how our relationship with Him impacts our lives every day.
Do you have a story of your time with God? Can you tell others about how you talk together? Walk together? Relate? It impacts lives when you can tell about how God has impacted your own.
