A New President – The Same Responsibilities

President-Elect Barack Obama

“Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” Romans 13:1

“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1-4

No matter who leads our nation we must continue to serve the Lord. President-Elect Barack Obama is established as the leader-elect of the United States by the Lord. We must make requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving for President-Elect Obama. Clearly, given the challenges we face as a nation and a culture, he needs our prayers and the wisdom that God alone can give.

These responsibilities would have been ours whether John McCain or Barack Obama won. Consequently, I’m not sure how much difference the election results make for those seeking first God’s Kingdom. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and obey His lead. Praise God for His excellent wisdom and grace in ordaining this new leader for our nation and continue to seek God’s wisdom and purpose in this day.

Father, may President-Elect Obama submit to You, the One True Authority, as he leads our country.
