We had an amazing time of worship of the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit at New Heights yesterday. As it all came to a close I thought it was likely the best “church service” I had ever attended. It wasn’t really different in style from the average modern nondenominational church service. We sang, someone talked a little, we sang a little more and took an offering, two more people spoke, we sang some more while communion and prayer took place, and then one more person spoke. But God’s Spirit governed it all.
What is interesting to think about for me is I could summarize the service another way, and the description would be horrifying to some church goers. The person who gave announcements quoted from Bono, the singer of U2 fame. Two people preached, one a woman and one a man. The female preacher quoted from the Pope.
With that summary, I’m quite sure some people would think it sounds like something unbiblical. But it wasn’t. The focus was on the living and risen Christ. And it was fantastic.
If you live in Northwest Arkansas and you’ve not visited New Heights, or haven’t gone recently, I’d suggest you go try it out. They meet at 9 and 10:30 on Sunday mornings at the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Fayetteville.
