Growing up I was taught that God answers prayer. But I was taught that He answers prayer “yes,” “no,” or “wait!”
Isn’t that kind of like saying that God is just a magic 8 ball? Isn’t that kind of like saying that God isn’t imaginative enough to provide a direct answer to my question or that I need to frame my questions in a simple fashion like an attorney cross-examining a witness?
If asking God questions is limited to questions like “should I get out of bed?” or “should I go to church?” or “should I get a job?” it’s no wonder people stop asking God questions. Oh how small is my faith in an omniscient and omnipotent God if I can’t trust Him to direct my paths every day. Believe it or not, God loves us so much that He wants to communicate to us more than we really want to hear Him anyway. He surely is speaking – that’s how He works, think Genesis 1.
